Low Back Pain Clinic

A 6 week group programme in conjunction with The NHS Pain Clinic, Mount Gould and as part of the NHS lumbar spine pathway. There’s a single 2 hour session each week with content that’s designed to support people that have been identified as suitable to take part.

There are participants of all ages, abilities and fitness levels but we are confident that the combination of qualified staff, experienced student helpers and the enthusiasm of the group creates a positive, friendly environment where each individual can gain confidence and be active in their own way.

What does the programme include?

The programme is designed to help participants reduce the impact that their back pain has on their quality of life. There are rehab exercises specifically designed to increase core strength but also ideas on how to limit bad movement practice in everyday living, advice on improving overall fitness and opportunities to do a range of physical activities such as walking, swimming, pilates and gym based exercise. All of these are prescribed in collaboration with participants and our ethos is to find activities that are enjoyable and sustainable and to work on making the exercises part of daily routines rather than something done purely in a rehab setting.

When is it?

The groups run for six consecutive weeks at the same time each week.

Upcoming groups start on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 7th June, 2017 – 1000-1200 (+optional swim, Thurs 22nd June, 1100)

How do people get on the programme?

We accept referrals from the Plymouth Low Back Pain Service at Mount Gould. Patients are normally referred to this service by their GP.
