Week 1
Sunday
First week of placement this week. Excited to get going and learn as much as I can from the coaches. Starting with academy training sessions then moving on to the professional training sessions later in the week.
Friday
First week of placement in the books. Logged six and a half hours this week at two academy sessions and two professional training sessions. At both of these types of sessions I was just watching and monitoring the coach and didn’t do much hands on coaching this week
Week 2
Sunday
Got the same week set up in terms of placement as last week. Hoping to get more hands on practical coaching this week especially from the academy sessions.
Friday
End of another busy week where placement is concerned. Didn’t get as hands on and practical as I would have liked to however there is signs of the coach putting more trust in me.
Week 3
Sunday
Another week of placement incoming. Another same week as the one before and hoping to expand upon the trust that the coaches distilled in me late last week
Friday
Both the academy and professional teams had big games this week, meaning I could not get as practical as I would have liked. Both came away with wins would should hopefully lead to better sessions next week.
Week 4
Sunday
Hoping to have a good week with my placement this week, also hoping to lead more drills and get more hands on.
Friday
This week I was on placement for 4 days and a total of six and a half hours. I was fortunate enough to lead some shooting drills with a small selection of the professional players at their training.
Week 5
Sunday
After my successful week of coaching last week, I am looking forward to expanding upon it. I feel like my confidence has already started to grow as a coach as a result of my placement.
Friday
Another successful but busy week of placement completed. This week I led some drills for the academy team, under the assistance and guidance of the coach.
Week 6
Sunday
A very similar week of placement coming up this week, starting to get a little bit repetitive now with the same routine each week.
Friday
A similar week to last week where I led a select few professional players with small drills to improve their shooting, mostly just rebounding for them.
Week 7
Sunday
This week I am going to be spending a whole day with Plymouth Raiders on Wednesday, I will also be involved with the academy set up again.
Friday
This week was valuable and one of my favourites since starting my placement, it started with academy sessions where I was given more freedom to coach, then I spent a whole day with Raiders where it started with pro training and then we went out and completed some community coaching at two local primary schools.
Week 8
Sunday
Very similar week on placement lined up as last week. I don’t mind that too much as last week was extremely valuable as I learnt a lot.
Friday
My placement this week was extremely valuable, the week started with two sessions of academy coaching followed by another full day with Raiders. This full day consisted of a professional training session, followed by some hours in the office which meant I could see what happens behind the scenes.
Week 9
Sunday
This week will be a light week on placement, only three professional training sessions this week which I will be attending, however I anticipate it will be light sessions after a game this weekend.
Friday
My anticipation of this week was correct, all three sessions where only light session after this weekend’s game. Today’s session was followed by a strength and conditioning session which gave me a valuable insight into the different types of training sessions players go through each week.
Week 10
Sunday
Only three days on placement this week which I am very excited for. Starting off with professional team training on Monday then on Wednesday spending a whole day with Raiders attending a Raiders academy game. Finishing with professional training on Friday.
Friday
This week’s placement was extremely enjoyable, really enjoyed my full day with raiders on Wednesday. Attending an academy game was extremely enjoyable and it gave me a valuable opportunity to see the training we had put in into use.
Week 11
Sunday
Penultimate week on placement this week. This week’s schedule is a professional team training session. Then I will be doing two community coaching sessions on the Wednesday within primary schools.
Friday
This week placement made me learn a lot and get good experience with in my coaching. I was able to go to two primary schools where I just assisted the first session then led the second with assistance.
Week 12
Sunday
My final week of placement starts tomorrow, sad to be coming to the end but have learnt a lot over my time with Plymouth Raiders. This week I will be attending one professional training session and then spending another full day at Raiders where we will be doing some community coaching.
Friday
This week I took more of a back seat with in the professional team training and community sessions. This is because we had challenging groups in the Primary schools. This meant that it needed my supervisor to step in and help me out.
