I’m dreaming of a Marjon Christmas

It’s Christmas right? Officially? Jumper wearing, mince pie eating Christmas? FINALLY. Because we here at JaM at Marjon love Christmas with every fibre of our being. We’ll be bringing you all of the festive cheer we can. This is your Ultimate Guide to Christmas at Marjon, with everything your university is putting on over the next week to get you in the Christmas mood.

Thursday 6th
Tonight is the final performance of the Acting student’s pantomime, ‘Jack.’ It’s funny and sexy and weird and everything you could want from a panto. For a full review, click here.

Friday 7th
Friday brings you Karen and Ed, members of staff at Student Support, they are busking over in the Chaplaincy at 12pm Friday afternoon. They were outside Barjon on Wednesday night, playing some lovely tunes and raising money for Callum St John.

‘O Little Town of Barjon,’ brought to you by the Chaplaincy and Student Union. Hosted in Barjon, there will be carols and mulled wine from 7pm – this is a family friendly affair, so feel free to bring the whole family!
At 9pm, the SU kicks off with the Marjon traditional Christmas jumper party! With disco music played throughout the night, it is always worth waiting for, so bring your worst (or best) xmas jumper, and party into the morning.

Free entry at 7pm, £2 entry after 9pm.

Sunday 9th
Marjon Chaplaincy is hosting a Messy Church event for families this Sunday. There will be crafts and colouring, refreshments, and the Chaplaincy Band will playing traditional christmas carols for some sing-a-long fun. At the time of posting, there are still a few hours to book onto the event – email

Monday 10th
This is the one everyone’s been waiting for. Monday is the Student Union’s Walkabout Christmas Party. This is a great way to celebrate the end of the semester surrounded by your Marjon family. The night includes live music from The Sound, 2 for 1 on selected drinks, and the SU are running buses from campus at 9:45 and 10:30 – don’t necessarily wait for the later bus because it is usually packed.
Tickets are £5 in advance (deadline to buy them is the 7th) or £6 on the door.

Tuesday 11th
The library will be hosting its annual mince pie day – they’re giving out free mince pies and reminding everyone to renew their library books. Basically, you can get a free mince pie and not pay library fines over christmas. Win win, right?
If you renew your library books on Tuesday or after, they will either be due on the 7th or 8th of January, giving you nearly a whole month of renewal free reading!

Thursday 13th
Thursday is the annual Christmas Carol Service, hosted by the Chaplaincy. To make it easier for staff and students to attend, this year’s service will be hosted at 12pm in the Chapel, and will feature Marjon Choir singing O Holy Night and Carol of the Bells. The Chaplaincy Band will also be accompanying the congregation with other traditional carols.
After the service, the Student Union will have set up a snow machine! There will be some very real Christmas fun in the mostly fake Christmas snow.

Friday 14th
The last day of term! Surely there’s nothing more christmassy than that.
In the spirit of giving at Christmas, the Chaplaincy have been running a Reverse Advent – putting food into a box to donate at a food bank. This ends on the 14th – there’s still a week left, so if there’s any tins or packets you’ve got lying around before you go home for the holidays, drop them in the box right at the front of the chaplaincy. Then, from all of us here at The Doughnut, enjoy your holiday, because we know we certainly will!
