The little, lovely and local Christmas markets that we bet you haven’t discovered yet…

Take a look at this year’s Fowey Christmas Market. If you missed it then don’t worry, just read on to find out all of the other little but lovely Christmas Markets in Devon and Cornwall.

One can never have enough Christmas (says one who’s surrounded in mince pies, gingerbread scented candles, a Christmas tree so big that its branches are tickling one’s knees and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You on repeat —so much whaling!?). Anyway, because it’s Christmas, we thought that it was only appropriate to grace you with the local festive market’s that you’ve probably never heard of — and, because let’s face it, it’s pretty likely that all of you Christmas obsessives have already visited the big ones.

 Chagford Christmas Late Night Shopping – Chagford, Devon

Fri 7th December 2018, 5pm – 8pm. Entry: Free

Granted, it’s not strictly a Christmas Market, but it’s sure to help you in continuing with that sparkling, joyful spirit. Haven’t got any plans this evening? Well Chagford – often described as a film-set perfect village or its beauty – is opening its independent shop doors tonight for one night only. Head down to the village for 5pm to enjoy carol singers, a spot of festive shopping, hot toddies and you’ll even get the chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto — he’s flown all the way in especially.

 Tavistock Dickensian Evening — Tavistock, Devon

Fri 7th December 2018, from 5pm. Entry: Free

Also tonight, but over in West Devon’s Tavistock, we’ve got Dickensian Evening which is one of the town’s most popular events of the year. This evening, the historic streets will be given that extra sparkle with the traditional Christmas lights switch-on, as well as the chance to enjoy some late night shopping with local entertainment lining the streets. The Bedford Hotel, located in the heart of the town, will be offering roast turkey baps with stuffing from 5:30pm and craft ale from their pop-up bar to wash it all down with.

 Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fayre – Cremyll, Torpoint, Cornwall

Sat 8th & Sun 9th December 2018

Sat: 10am – 5pm Sun: 10am – 4pm. Entry: Adults, £3. Children, £1

Set in the beautiful grounds of Mount Edgcumbe, the Christmas Fayre is nothing short of a delight, particularly for foodies. The Fayre is set to display inspirational, live cooking demonstrations by some of the West Country’s leading chefs, as well as a wide variety of tasty produce for you to try. As well as culinary delights, the Fayre – which is just a short ferry ride from Plymouth – has floral displays to purchase which have been beautifully handmade by Duchy College students. Not only this, but the Fayre offers lots of fun-filled, magical entertainment, including those living statues that even adults are mesmerised by – well, we are anyway

 Perranporth Christmas Market – Perranporth, Cornwall

Sun 9th December 2018, from 11am. Entry: Free

Situated on the North Coast of Cornwall, Perranporth’s Open Air Market offers locally produced arts and crafts, tasty street food and Cornish mulled cider. The seaside town, famous for its popular music events, will feature live performances from a variety of musicians from across the area and at 3pm, a junior carol service will take place at St Pirans Church. Need a break from shopping? Take a leisurely stroll along Perranporth’s beautiful beach – and you may even be lucky enough to witness the ‘Santas on the Sand’ charity beach run. Hundreds of Santas running like hooligans along the beach? What’s not to love?

 Totnes Christmas Market and Late Night Shopping – Totnes, Devon

Tues 11th & Tues 18th December, 3:30pm – 9:30pm. Entry: Free

The Totnes Night Market returns to the Market Square for another exciting year, with a diverse range of Christmas stalls to ensure you are firmly kept in the festive spirit.  The Night Market, which focuses on local trade, offers an eclectic selection of arts and crafts, as well as lots of tasty local food and treats to keep your energy up throughout the fun-packed evening. With its community centered approach, the Totnes Night Market features performances from local schools, home-grown bands, community choirs, drummers and a beautiful lantern parade. But that’s not all – Father Christmas will be making another visit to the South West, this time to the Totnes Night Market’s pop-up grotto – wow, Father Christmas is a very busy man…

 Jubilee Wharf Christmas Fair – Penryn, Cornwall

Sat 15th – Sun 16th December, Sat: 10am – 5pm Sun: 11am – 4pm. Entry: Free

The Jubilee Wharf’s Christmas Fair, which sits right on the edge of the Penryn River, gives you the chance to pick up some unique and handmade gifts whilst enjoying the beautiful river-side views. The Fair, which offers food from neighboring café, Muddy Beach, boasts over 30 indoor and outdoor stalls while offering the perfect Christmas presents and treats for all members of the family. The Fair will also see a return of the pedal-powered fountain, with a competition at 2pm to see who can pedal the highest fountain – perfect for both the little kids and the big kids (and the overly competitive parents).
