Theatre Coming To Plymouth In 2020

If you are a theatre fan, do you realise just how lucky you are to live in Plymouth. We may be miles and miles away from London with it’s grand and glitzy West End theatres, but here we have the Theatre Royal and this year, there are some amazing shows stopping off there on tour. Whether you like drama, dance or musicals, there is guaranteed to be something for you in their 2020 calendar.

Shakespeare Season

  • Measure for Measure – 12-22 February
  • As You Like It – 13 – 20 February
  • The Taming of the Shrew – 18 – 22 February

If you are a fan of the famous bard, three of his great works will be performed at the Theatre Royal Plymouth throughout February. A great opportunity to see some of his famous plays.

 The Mousetrap

24 – 29 February

Perhaps one of the most famous who done it’s ever written; the UK Tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap will have you gripped from start to finish. Packed with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end, but you must promise that after you’ve it, you must keep the secret.

An Inspector Calls

3 – 7 March

J B Priestly’s famous thriller An Inspector Calls comes to Plymouth in March and this National Theatre production is award winning. With an incredible set and a story that will have you on the each of your seat, you really don’t want to miss this one

Holes

17 – 21 March

Holes was one of my favourite books and films when I was younger, so I’m quite interested to see how this one is going to transfer to the stage. I am sure that this production is going to be popular with school groups and families.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Swan Lake

1 – 4 April

If you want to see some classical Ballet, then this is the show for you. The Birmingham Royal Ballet will be in Plymouth in April and I am sure that this production is going to be absolutely beautiful.

David Walliam’s Billionaire Boy

7 – 11 April

One for the whole family here with the stage adaptation of David Walliam’s Billionaire Boy. The story of a boy with all that he could ever wish for apart from a friend, this fun and funny show will teach important lessons to all ages.

Six

27 – 31 May

The smash hit musical is hitting Plymouth in May, telling the untold stories of the six wives of Henry VIII and this rock concert style show has been thrilling audiences up and down the country. A fun and high energy show runs for about an hour and a half with no interval so prepare yourself for a concert.

Thriller

22 – 27 June

After amazing audiences in London for over ten years, Thriller Live is going to be touring into Plymouth later this year. Packed full of Michael Jackson’s biggest hits and some incredible dancing, this is the show for someone who is looking for a fun night out.

9 To 5

14 – 18 July

As we enter the summer, we hit big musical season at Theatre Royal Plymouth. Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5 comes here fresh from London’s West End with it’s catchy songs, high energy dance numbers and girl power message. If you are looking for a treat of a show that will have you laughing from start to end, then this is the show for you.

Mamma Mia!

21 July – 8 August

Perhaps the most famous jukebox musical of all time, Mamma Mia! Returns to Plymouth for the first time since 2017. The perfect musical for a summer by the sea, Mamma Mia! Tells the story of bride to be Sophie, her mother Donna and her three possible fathers. If you are looking for fun and a chance to dance, then you can get no better than this ABBA filled hit!

My Best Friend’s Wedding

19 – 26 September

Later this year, the new stage adaptation of My Best Friend’s Wedding is making it’s world premiere at our very own Theatre Royal Plymouth. Starring Alexandra Burke, this show tells the story of food critic Julianne and her plot to win back her ex-boyfriend despite the fact that he is engaged to someone else. If you want to be among the very first people to see a brand-new musical, then get your tickets booked for this one.

Aladdin

18 December – 16 January

It’s never too early to start thinking about the Christmas season, especially when it comes to planning for a trip to a good old-fashioned pantomime. The Theatre Royal Plymouth has already announced that Aladdin will be this year’s festive treat and tickets are already on sale. If you want to see the wonder of a flying carpet and plenty more magic, this is guaranteed to be a hot ticket for a family theatre trip.
