Turnitin: Assignment submission & digital receipt

The University uses a method of online submission called Turnitin, which enables you to submit your assignments via LearningSpace.  This guide takes you through the steps needed to submit your assignment electronically using Turnitin.

Finding the submission area

  • Log into LearningSpace and go to your module page
  • Click the assignment that you need to submit to
  • Check information on the’My Submissions’ screen – look at the assignment title and due date

Submitting your assignment

  • Click the ‘Submit paper’ icon (located at the bottom right hand side of the page)

  • Enter your submission title
  • To upload your assignment ‘drag and drop’ your assignment file into the ‘files to submit’ box
  • Read through the statement of originality and click the check box
  • Click the ‘Add submission’ button

  • OR
  • Click the green ‘Add…’ icon
  • Click ‘Upload a file’ then ‘choose file’ button, navigate to your assignment and click to select it, click the ‘open’ button, then the ‘upload this file’ button
  • Read through the statement of originality and click the checkbox
  • Click the ‘Add submission’ button

Checking that your submission was successful

  • If your submission was successful, a ‘digital receipt’ will display a confirmation message and submission ID. It will also display an extract from your submission.
  • Click the ‘Close’ button (top right hand corner of screen)
  • To double check that you have submitted the correct file, click the title of your assignment in the submission inbox to open it in Turnitin

Printing and saving your digital receipt

Students are strongly advised to ensure they keep a copy of their digital receipt, which is proof that they have submitted their work and contains a submission ID and date/time details.

  1. Click on the assignment to open ‘My submissions’
  2. Click the ‘View digital receipt’ link
  3. Click ‘Print’, which will open a copy of your digital receipt
  4. Then click the Print button

         

Saving your digital receipt

To save your digital receipt when using the Chrome browser, follow steps 1-3 above then click the ‘Change’ button, select ‘Save as PDF’, then click ‘Save’ and navigate to the folder you want to save it to.  If you are using Internet Explorer, follow steps 1-3 above then click ‘Print to File’, then click the Print button and navigate to the folder you want to save it to.

Alternatively you can:

  • Click on the assignment to open ‘My submissions’
  • Click your assignment title (in this example Assignment 1)

  • Your assignment will open in the Turnitin window
  • Click the ‘Download’ icon (right hand toolbar)
  • Then click ‘Current View’

 

  • The file will be stored by default in your ‘Downloads’ folder
  • Open your ‘Downloads’ folder to locate your ‘digital receipt’, right click the receipt, select ‘copy’, then ‘paste’ in to the folder you want to store it in
