If I could ride 500 miles

For my advanced outdoor practice I completed mountain biking for four days. There was no award or qualification at the end of this, I felt a at ease with each session knowing I didn’t have to complete anything to a specific standard.

My first mountain biking session we had a choice of two different areas to go, one was a long ride around Dartmoor and the other was a chance to go to the trail track in Lanhydrock. We went on the long ride round Dartmoor much to my disgust. We rode from Princetown, down to Burrator reservoir and back round up the disused rail way back to the bus at Princetown.
This was one of the longest bike rides I think I have ever been on in my life, it felt like we were riding 1000 of miles! Considering the rides were on Thursday’s this meant it was after a BUCs Wednesday which meant I would have played 90 minutes of football on the Wednesday plus a night out meaning my legs were dead and I was very hungover. None the less I powered through the day with mild complaining, because I went out the night before I had an extreme dehydration and low sugar levels in my body. We were about an hour away from the end when I finally felt the effects of the night before; it just so happened to be on the uphill section; I started to feel dizzy and asked them to stop, then Hamish gave me two glucose gel things which were disgusting but done the job to keep me going till the end.
Once back at the bus we packed the bikes up and even though the drive back to campus was only about half an hour I started to doze off from the lack of sleep and how worn out I was from the ride.
Overall a really good day.
