07/10/18 – Plymouth 10K run

Date: 10.07.18

Location: Plymouth city centre

Total amount of hours: 5

During the event a number of different participants were treated both pre and post run. Treating the runners before the run means that the muscle fibres were losened as well as enhance blood circulation. However, this would have to be a light massage in order not to damage any of the muscle tissues before the run.

After the run, participants were treated using effleurage and petrissage techniques on the gastrocnemius muscles, this will help to improve recovery time and improve blood flow. Using the effleurage technique would warm up the muscle before any deep tissue work. Each client was treated for three minutes per person. Both male and female runners of a variety of different ages were treated. techniques were adapted to suit the different clients due to the different sizes of muscles and how much pain the client is feeling.

When treating client A, it was noticed that both calf muscles were tight and caused the client severe pain. Treatment began with effleurage techniques to warm up the muscles before further treatment, making them more pliable and less painful for the client. Using petrissage helped to relax the muscle and decrease some of the tightness in the gastrocnemius.

Application of technique was successful however more confidence and communication can be applied to help the client to feel more comfortable and relaxed.
