Swimming and water safety in schools is included in the national curriculum. All children should leave primary school being able to swim and have competent knowledge on how to stay safe in and around water, however, 31% of year 6 pupils leave primary schools with out being able to swim, or have little swimming ability.
Should there be more lessons in the water during primary schools to increase the amount of children who can swim by the time that they leave school?
