The course I want to do

After speaking with my placement supervisor, other manager, some of my colleagues and the a careers advisor at Marjon, I have decided to do a level 2 childcare course over the summer. This could help me to find similar jobs in the future and as I am really enjoying this sort of work would be something I would really like to have. This is the course my manager recommended to me and the careers advisor at Marjon agreed it would be a really good idea:

CACHE Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children & Young People

Important Documents that I have used

The EYFS framework

Development matters:

This is the document which I have been using for my learning journeys. When a child can do something consistently it gets highlighted so that I can see where the child’s development is.

Placement Reading

Reading

During my time on placement I read several books from Marjon library to try and improve my practice. One book which I found particularly useful was play and learning in the early years. I found the chapter on cooperative learning from nursery to year one particularly interesting and the part about the theory behind and usefulness of sand play was fascinating as this is something we use regularly in the preschool and I had never given it much thought.

Another book which I found interesting was ‘Introducing Piaget : A Guide for Practitioners and Students in Early Years Education’ I found this book really useful. I already knew a lot about Piaget from last semester but I found the practical examples in this book really helped me understand what it meant in practice. I particularly liked the chapter on egocentrism and the pre-schooler as I had never properly understood this before.

Reflective learning log 21/02/19

It was half term this week. I went into work for three hours, drank a lot of coffee, chatted a bit and caught up on my paperwork. I spent most of the time sticking pictures of the children doing activities into their learning journeys. It provides good evidence of what they can do and parents usually really like to see what they have been getting up to. It also makes their folders a lot more engaging and is often a lot easier than trying to put exactly what they were doing into words. We also had a staff meeting.
