Clinic Reflection 1

Date: 23/09/2020

What Happened? What did the experience mean? What are the next steps?

The first session back introduced us to the new format of clinic practice via an online Microsoft teams meeting. Due to the current climate, new ways of practice are being implemented into our system and the way we can contact, consult, and treat new/existing patients. The thought of consulting with a patient through a live online conversation does not appeal to me. I would much prefer to meet the patient in person to have that face to face interaction, which I believe adds an elevated level of comfort and support to the session. Unfortunately, it is currently safer for both parties to initially meet virtually and if we can treat the patient without meeting in person, then that is what will be done.

Alex and Mike gave a very well spoken, detailed presentation on what the clear rules and standards are for working within the Marjon clinic. More specifically, they gave us an easy to follow mind map of the COVID-19 secure initial consultation/treatment process. I found this process easy to follow but I will need to print off a picture of the mind map because it was hard to read over a screen (that may just be my bad eyes). The online booking platform that we are now authorized to use will take some getting used to as I personally prefer to work from pen and paper. I see this as an opportunity to add another skill to my inventory.

I feel excited to get back into the clinic next week to expand my knowledge in the field of clinical practice. Although some of this excitement I feel will probably turn into nerves nearer the time, I am confident in my skills and abilities to become a strong member of the team.
