This session was conducted in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic for 1 hour. The client wanted a back massage to relive general tension from University.
Reflective Summary
Firstly I set up the bed and washed my hands. I checked over the contraindications and checked for any allergies. I began with 5 minutes of effluragel to aid blood flow to the back. Following this, I did some deeper work using petrissage techniques, such as kneading, wringing and lifting. Using a bolster, I was able to get slightly more underneath the scapula. This exposed many myofacial points, in which I applied neuromuscular techniques using my thumbs, combined with efflurage to not cause too much pain all at once. To finish off, I did another 5 minutes of efflurage.
Areas for Improvement
During the massage, the client pointed out that they didn’t like the scent of the massage medium I chose.
What can I do next?
- Offer the client a choice of which massage medium they would like you to use.
