STYC01 Clinical Reflection 12/04/2019

This session was undertaken in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic for 1 hour, treating the clients upper back.

Reflective Summary

After washing my hands, putting down coach roll and making the work place look generally professional, we went through the consultation form. I palpated the trapezius, rhomboids, lattisimus dorsi and deltoids. Their trapezius and rhomboids were tight and the client experienced pain on palpation with both of these muscles. Treating one side at a time, I performed a soft tissue massage. To begin, I did 5 minutes of efflurage, to warm the muscles up. Then, I did 15 minutes of petrissage. In order to get deeper, I used a boulster under the clients shoulder, making the scapula to become more superficial, to reach more of the subscapularis and the muscles attaching to the medial border of the scapula. Following this, I applied neuromuscular techniques to the myofacial points.

Areas for Improvement

Within this session I spent longer on the right side than the left as I ran out of time.

What can I do next?

Watch the clock when treating clients.
