STYC01 Clinical Reflection 18/04/2019

This session was conducted in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic for 1 hour. I treated the clients calf’s.

Reflective Summary

Within this session, I performed a soft tissue massage on the clients calf muscles. To begin, I did 5 minutes of efflurage, followed by 10 minutes of petrissage, followed by 10 minutes of tapotements, followed by 5 minutes of efflurage. After this, the muscular energy technique RI on the clients gastrocnemius and soleus.

Areas for Improvement

Within this session I chose to do RI for practise, as it isn’t a technique I use often. However, the client complained of it being uncomfortable due to having to contract their muscles with too much force to resist me even the smallest amount.

What can I do next?

When stretching a client using a muscular energy technique, use PIR if you can (if there isn’t an injury to this area), as from feedback, this seems to be the most comfortable stretching technique.
