STYC01 Clinical Reflection 23/04/2019

This session was conducted in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic for one hour. The client had tight and painful glutes.

Reflective Summary

Upon arrival, I observed the clients gate, which looked normal. I observed and palpated the muscles and bony points around this area including the glutes, TFL, hamstrings, IT band, etc. When testing the range of movement of the hips, the client had limited ROM in movements predominantly requiring the glutes. For treatment, I performed a soft tissue massage to the glutes. Following this, we stretched them using the muscular energy technique PIR.

Areas for Improvement

I found it difficult to do efflurage on a small surface area.

What can I do next?

Practise soft tissue massage on the glutes, and this is something I wasn’t confident doing.
