This session was conducted in the Marjon Sports Therapy Clinic. The client had tightness in their hamstrings.
Reflective Summary
Upon arrival, I viewed the clients gait, in which it was clear they had tightness in their hamstrings. I observed and palpated the hamstrings, calf muscles, quadriceps and glutes. It was apparent that it was the hamstrings that were tender and tight. For treatment, I performed a soft tissue massage on the clients hamstrings. Doing one hamstring at a time, to begin, I did 5 minutes of efflurage to warm the muscle up. Following this, in order to get deeper, I did 10 minutes of petrissage, ensuring to use my knuckles as well as my thumbs. Afterwards, I did 10 minutes of tapotements including hacking and beating, to further relieve the tension in the clients hamstrings. To finish off, I did another 5 minutes of efflurage.
Areas for Improvement
The client was extremely chatty and I lost track of time, meaning that I ran over by around 5 minutes.
What can I do next?
Watch the clock when treating clients.
