Final Rehearsals and Introducing Meisner

We are now  into our last week of the process and to say I am nervous is an understatement. Yesterday, me and Ryan worked on our scene for the final time before the assessment. We looked at bringing in Meisner technique in order to boost the connection between our characters and make it more real. We did this because we felt like there was not enough of a real relationship being shown between our characters and we both felt like we were having to force the scene a bit. We both read the book “Sanford Meisner on Acting” (1987), and found an exercise where one person gives the other a compliment and this is repeated again and again until the connection felt is real. I found this exercise really useful as it really helped me to connect with my character and with Ryan as well. I think that I really benefited from this rehearsal as I felt more in control after the exercise and could feel myself engaging more with the scene.

After we did this, we also got some of the class in to watch our scene in order to get some peer feedback. Overall, their responses were really positive which was reassuring giving the assessment is so soon. I feel more ready for the assessment now than I was at the beginning of this week. I think this is not only because of the feedback we have been given, but also due to the amount of work we have put in this week to make everything perfect. I am happy with the work I have put into this project so far and hopefully this is reflected in my final performance as I believe I have engaged with this unit very well.
