Be Prepared : Theatre To Look Forward To In 2020

Can you believe that it’s already November? The year is running away from us and Christmas is just around the corner. It will be 2020 before you even realise it and if, like me, you are a fan of theatre, you will know that 2020 is shaping up to be a big year. We don’t seem to go a week without something else being announced, another star name concert here, or another big show opening there. The desire to book everything in sight is strong, and the scream of my credit card begging me not to use it is loud. Is anyone else hoping that they may find some theatre tickets under the Christmas tree this year?

So, as I said, there is a lot of theatre to look forward to in 2020 and this is as good a time as any to start preparing for a year of theatrical brilliance with a glance at things to come.

Be More Chill – The Other Palace, London – 12th February to May 3rd

Be More Chill become a cult sensation earlier this year when it became a surprise hit on Broadway with it’s stories of peer pressure and being yourself and fans were devastated when it closed back in August. But if you have been hooked by the music of this show, and were saddened when you couldn’t see it in the flesh, you don’t have to wait to much longer for your chance. The show will open at The Other Palace in February, and some are already anticipating a repeat of it’s american success.

Pretty Woman – The Piccadilly Theatre – February 14th 2020 to January 2nd 2021

A popular film with many (I haven’t seen it), Pretty Woman made it’s way to the stage in 2018 and lasted a year on Broadway before it was announced that it would cross over to the West End for a run at The Piccadilly Theatre. Whilst some may think this an odd choice of theatre for this one (the Piccadilly is rather ‘cosy’), I know that many are hoping that Pretty Woman Broadway cast member and West End favourite Samantha Barks will return to the London stage.

City Of Angels – Garrick Theatre – March 6th to September 5th

When City Of Angels run at The Donmar Warehouse back in 2015, it proved highly popular and received two nominations at The Olivier Awards and now it’s back with a West End run at The Garrick Theatre. Hadley Fraser, Rebecca Trehearn and Rosalie Craig will return to the show where they will be joined by West End favourite Rob Houchen and Tony Award nominee Vanessa Fisher in her West End debut. This classic Hollywood themed show is sure to prove popular with theatre fans.

The Prince Of Egypt – The Dominion Theatre – February 5th to September 12th

I think that most people would remember watching the Dreamworks film of The Prince of Egypt when they were younger, and most people would at least know of that famous song ‘When You Believe’, but now it’s coming to one of the biggest stages in London. Following a developmental run in America in 2017, The Prince of Egypt will run at The Dominion Theatre for a limited season next year and tickets are already proving popular.

Once – UK Tour

Once enjoyed a successful two year run in London’s West End and has been sadly missing off of the theatre scene since it closed in 2015, but now the love story is back as Once prepares to head out on the road. Launching next year, the show will tour the UK through to the end of July, including a stop at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. The cast will be led by Daniel Healy as Guy and Emma Lucia as Girl
