Special Memories

AHEAD of Argyle’s trip to Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup first round on Saturday, Pilgrim manager Ryan Lowe emphasised how his players have a great opportunity to generate their own ‘special memories’.

“For the lads, the FA Cup is a big weekend – we have the opportunity to generate some special memories” said Lowe. “It’s a special day and there’s always special memories from the FA Cup. We look to make our own special memories on Saturday.

“It’s special and definitely the best cup competition in the world, for me. You think of the Champions League, but for all of the league clubs – the FA Cup is a great opportunity.”

Although this game in the world’s oldest club competition entails Lowe’s side playing against higher league opposition, his side are more than up for the challenge.

“I’m not going there to get beat, I’m going there to win. Ultimately, we have got a team standing in our way and Bolton are in the same position as us,” Lowe said.

“We are, however, taking nothing for granted. We are going there bubbly and in good shape being only seven points off the top. We’re in good form and certainly looking forward to it.”

Ryan was also quick praise this weekend’s opposition management, commenting on just how good a job Keith Hill and David Flitcroft have been doing recently.

“Keith [Hill] and [David] Flitcroft are in there and doing a fantastic job, I certainly believe that,” he said. “They’re on a good run of form at the moment, but you can’t take anything for granted. We’ll go there as slight underdogs, as we are in League Two and they are in League One.

“I think the way they are going now; they are in with a good chance of getting out of the mire.

“It would be nice to get a cup run. It would be great to get through to the third round, but it’s going to be tough as we know Bolton are going to pose a threat.

“The league is our bread and butter, but a run in the cup would be great for our club.”
