Southampton 2-3 Man United: Fernandes Having a Big Impact on Manchester United Just like Ronaldo Did

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has recently stated that Bruno Fernandes has had a positive impact on Manchester United since joining the Red Devils back in January 2020.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder has made 36 appearances and scored 22 goals in total for United in all competitions.

Following yesterdays magnificent Manchester United comeback from two goals down against Southampton to win 2-3, Bruno Fernandes has received even more praise. After Manchester United went 2-0 down from a wonderful headed goal from Jan Bednarek and a superb free kick from James Ward-Prowse after 33 minutes, the Red Devils needed a hero. Luckily for them, two heroes emerged, Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani.

Bruno Fernandes lead the charge by scoring the first goal that sparked the United comeback and brought the team back to life. Edinson Cavani then went on to score an well timed header at the 74′ minute and make the game level with 16 minutes plus stoppage time to play. It was the final minutes into the stoppage time when Edinson Cavani grabbed the winner and stole all three points.

A defeat for Southampton keeps them in fifth place with teams like Aston Villa still to play. Solskjær’s Manchester United 8th place, five points off the top spot with a game in hand on most teams.

So why is Bruno Fernandes receiving so much praise?

It’s because he can bring the Manchester Untied back from the dead like he did against Southampton and spur them on to get the result they desperately need. He scored the first goal that led to a crucial comeback for the Red Devils. This is why Ole Gunnar Solskjær has compared his impact at United to Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact.

When asked if Fernandes has the same impact on United as Ronaldo did he said, “He does definitely have that presence, He has that influence and impact on his teammates. We can just look at the results since he’s come in. He’s got lots of energy, leadership; he’s a team player, which is a key here now for us going forward.”

This is huge praise, considering Cristiano Ronaldo is considered Manchester United’s greatest player.

Can Bruno Fernandes continue this great form and lead the Red Devils to Premier League success that they have been without since 2013?

Only time will tell.
