Gareth Southgate has announced today that England captain Harry Kane will be fit to play in England’s 2nd World Cup group match against USA.
This comes after the forward suffered a suspected ankle injury in England’s 6-2 win over Iran on Monday and was later substituted.
“He was feeling ill and that was affecting his vision,” Southgate told BBC Sport. “You worry about concussion in that instant, but we were going back through all the footage and there is nothing, so he is in a good area.”
Kane could overtake Rooney as England’s record goal scorer as he is currently on 51 goals in 76 appearances, two behind the ex-Manchester United striker who has 53.
He could also overtake Lineker as England’s record World Cup goal scorer, as he is currently on 6 goals in 7 games, 4 behind the ex-Leicester striker who has 10 in 12.

The Spurs striker did not score in England’s first game, but still played an influential role with two assists and captained the side to the 6-2 victory.
Kane has also been in the news lately after the controversy surrounding whether he will or will not wear the ‘ONE LOVE’ armband as previously promised. The striker did not wear the armband for the game against Iran following announcements from FIFA about potential yellow cards and bans if Kane did so.
FIFA subsequently confirmed its ‘No Discrimination’ campaign had been brought forward and Kane wore the approved armband during England’s opening Group B victory.
Speaking about the situation, Kane told Sky Sports: “We’re disappointed. We wanted to wear it, that decision was taken out of my hands. I turned up to the stadium with the armband that I wore, and I was told I had to wear that.”
