Tuesday the 21st of March marks World Poetry Day. World Poetry Day was established in 1999. Its goal was to promote reading, writing, publishing, and teaching poetry.
It is important because it celebrates one of the oldest writing and art forms that many people still engage with today. Poetry is one of the top book genres worldwide and the most popular book genre in Asia. It reintroduces the importance of poetry to people who regard it as old-fashioned. It is also a way to highlight modern poetry as well as the genres significance and diversity amongst different cultures.
Some students have expressed that they are hoping Plymouth Marjon will celebrate and put on events for World Poetry Day next year seeing as the University did not have anything on this year.
