What happened:

Today I had a new patient in clinic who was suffering from knee and lower back pain. Her LBP began after she had an epidural during labour and they struggled to get the epidural in and changed the position a couple of times. I was really shocked to hear this as I didn’t expect something like that to happen and it made me realise the importance of considering pregnancy and complications during pregnancy and labour when treating females. She left really lovely feedback to my supervisor in clinic saying I was “very knowledgable and one of the best students she’s seen in the clinic”.

What I was thinking and feeling and what was good or bad:

I felt really proud and a lot more confident about my ability after receiving such lovely feedback. It also really opened my eyes to the different causes of pain that we might not consider.

What else I could have done/areas for improvement:

Continue to learn more about the link between epidural or pregnancy complications and injuries associated.

 Action plan:

Look more into less common causes of injury to build up my knowledge and make me more aware of different contributing factors.
