LearningSpace: Quiz question – Drag and drop onto image

You can add a number of different question types to each quiz. This tutorial shows you how to create a ‘Drag and drop onto image’ question.

How to add a ‘Drag and drop onto image’ question to your quiz

Locate your quiz and click to open

If you are adding your first question:

  1. Click the ‘Edit quiz’ button
  2. Then click ‘Add’ and ‘new question’
  3. A list of question types will be displayed
  4. Select ‘Drag and drop onto image’ then click ‘Add’

If you are adding to a quiz that already has questions:

  1. Locate the quiz and click to open
  2. Go to the ‘Administration block’ (right-hand side of page) and click on the cog icon and then ‘Edit quiz’
  3. You will see a list of questions already added to the quiz
  4. Follow steps 2 – 4 above

How to set up your ‘Drag and drop onto image’ question

  1. Category – Click the down arrow and select the category that you want the question added to
  2. Question name – Enter a question name. This is for reference purpose only (students do not see this)

Setup of questions

  1. Question text – enter text to explain what needs to be done
  2. Default mark – enter a mark (in the example below, there are 6 labels so the question is worth 6 marks)
  3. General feedback – a general comment can be added here and could also include a link to a relevant webpage (optional)
  4. Preview – Drag and drop the image you want to use (or click ‘choose a file’, ‘choose file’, then locate and select your image, click open and then ‘upload this file’)
    1. Go to ‘draggable item 1’, click the down arrow and select ‘draggable text’, then enter your text.
    2. Repeat the step to add more draggable text items

    1. When you have finished adding your ‘draggable text’, save and continue editing
    2. Then go to the ‘Drop zones’ section
    3. Go to ‘drop zone 1’, and click the down arrow to select a draggable item from the list (‘Africa’ has been elected in this example)
    4. This will create a draggable label


Africa label

  1. Drag the ‘label’ to the correct position on the image. In this example the ‘Africa’ label needs to be placed at the correct location on the map
  2. Once you have moved the label into position on the image, the left and top co-ordinates are automatically added
  3. Repeat steps 1 – 2 to add other labels to your image
  4. Combined feedback – enter general feedback for correct, partially correct and incorrect responses (optional)
  5. Multiple tries – If the quiz has been setup to allow more than one attempt, you can add hints and penalties for incorrect attempts in this section
