Introduction to LearningSpace, Turnitin and REPLAY for New Staff Members

A warm welcome the the university from the Digital Innovation team. This is a quick guide for new staff working at Plymouth Marjon University, or for any staff wanting a refresher, giving an introduction to our online learning environment, LearningSpace, as well as accessing and using Turnitin for online marking and our content capture system REPLAY.

LearningSpace is the online learning environment used at Marjon and is powered by Moodle, it can be accessed from or from the mobile app. Students are given access to a page within LearningSpace for each of their modules that they study. This page will be populated with content from the module by their tutors, they will also be able to access recordings of their lectures captured by our REPLAY system. Basic courses will contain sections for you to add content to and a News Forum for announcements and discussion, any posts added to the forum will automatically be emailed out to students.

A blank LearningSpace page is set up for each module, tutors and module leaders will be given editing access to the module to add or edit content. We encourage staff to include as much varied and engaging content in their pages as possible, for example embedded videos, images and ad-hoc recordings.

The links below will take you to our basic guides for getting started with LearningSpace and adding content to your module page.

Turnitin is the online submission system used at the University, it allows students to submit their assignments through their LearningSpace module page. The system will check students assignments for plagiarism and tutors can then mark and add feedback to the submission online, using the Turnitin feedback tools.

REPLAY Content Capture

REPLAY is our automatic lecture capture system, powered by Panopto. The systems allows for the scheduling of lecture recordings in-line with the timetable, these recordings will capture the presentation and in room audio. It is also possible to record ad-hoc sessions using the REPLAY system, see the below image. These recordings will then be available for students to view from the REPLAY Block on the right-hand side of their LearningSpace Module page.

From September 2017 each teaching room will be equipped with a recording indicator light, this will show RED when a session is being captured by the system and WHITE when it is Paused or not being recorded. You can Pause/un-pause the recording using the F9 keyboard shortcut.

The links below will take you to our introductory guides for using the REPLAY system.
