Kinesiology tape (K tape), is an elastic based tape which is used for a variety of soft tissue injuries as well as postural issues. It has a variety of intended functions, which can be recruited via different applications. One main purpose of K tape is its ability to aid drainage to control and reduce oedema. When an injury occurs and tissues are damaged, fluid floods the site of injury to act as a protective mechanism to reduce further harm. A mesh type application of K tape reduces swelling by slightly lifting the layers of tissue through its elastic tension on the epidermis. Less compression throughout this area allows for improved fluid flow, thus the tape facilitates the increased drainage from the injured area and and improved recovery.
