Compare own philosophy against that of your secondary placement school and highlight the similarities and differences.

My philosophy: I believe that Physical Education is an integral part of the current National Curriculum. Physical Education is a subject where students can express themselves in a different way to classroom study. Physical Education offers students to get active in an otherwise classroom based school life. Physical Education promotes a healthy active lifestyle in a generation where there is such cause for concern over students activity levels. With regular exercise students and people in general have a healthier mindset as well as body. I believe Physical Education can help to develop students as a person unlike other subjects, within Physical Education the student is exposed to success and failure, situations they will find themselves in within the outside world. During Physical Education students will share a close working relationship unlike any other subject in the curriculum and friendships can be formed.

Placement school’s philosophy: There is no written philosophy of PE within the placement school, or on the website. However, during my time on placement I believe that the schools philosophy promotes a the encouragement of a healthy active lifestyle through physical education. The school offers before, and after school fitness clubs, in addition to lunch time activities, and use of the gym. The schools main focus seems to be on a healthy active lifestyle. However, the holistic growth of a pupil is evidenced within the schools ethos as the teachers are always approachable and helpful with matters practical or theory based.
