The spirit of endurance and camaraderie was on full display as Ella O’Neill, Student Sport and Physical Activity Manager, and Emma Ryder, Duty Manager at the Marjon Sport & Health Centre (and MSc Sports Psychology student) embarked on an extraordinary ultramarathon adventure over the weekend. Taking on a challenging 5-mile multi-terrain loop, this team of five remarkable individuals pushed their limits, running through unbearable 30-degree heat and conquering day and night. As a team, they completed 150 miles over 24 hours!

The ultramarathon demanded unwavering determination from every participant. One of the most daunting aspects was the unforgiving weather conditions. With temperatures reaching a scorching 30 degrees, the runners had to contend with intense heat throughout the race. The only respite came during the late-night and early-morning hours when the temperatures were relatively cooler.

Every great team has its unsung heroes, and in this case, it was Emma Ryder who stepped up to the challenge. With a runner forced to withdraw due to surgery, Emma fearlessly stepped in, filling the vacant spot with zero drama. Despite never having attempted anything of this magnitude before, she displayed incredible consistency and emerged as one of the team’s most valuable assets. Emma’s resilience and determination embodied the true spirit of Marjon, inspiring her teammates along the way.

This was not just a test of individual endurance but also a celebration of teamwork. The members of Team Marjon supported and motivated each other through every step of the gruelling race. Their unwavering support and shared determination created an atmosphere of unity that propelled them forward, even in the face of fatigue and discomfort. Together, they pushed through the toughest moments and emerged victorious as a team.

Ella and Emma, alongside their team, demonstrated remarkable fortitude and determination in completing an arduous ultramarathon. Their commitment to pushing boundaries and their ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges made their journey even more inspiring. The triumph of Team Marjon serves as a powerful reminder of the incredible feats that can be accomplished when individuals come together with a shared goal and unwavering support for one another.
