It’s that time of the year again for lots of our students – exams are on the horizon. And it can be difficult to juggle study, work, social commitments, and other responsibilities.
So, we thought we would put together a list of study tips to make sure that the time you spend studying is as effective as possible.
Remember, studying is not just about putting in long hours, but also about using effective study techniques that work for you. Experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you.
1. Create a study scheduleDevelop a schedule that sets aside dedicated time for studying and stick to it as much as possible. This can help you stay organised and focused. |
2. Eliminate distractionsFind a quiet study space free of distractions like TV, social media, or loud music. Put your phone on silent or turn off notifications to minimise interruptions. |
3. Take breaksTake short breaks every hour or so to recharge and avoid burnout. Use this time to stretch, grab a snack, or go for a quick walk. |
4. Use active learning techniquesInstead of just reading your notes, actively engage with the material by taking notes, creating flashcards, or summarising key concepts in your own words. |
5. Prioritise difficult topicsIf you find a particular subject challenging, prioritise studying that topic first while your mind is fresh. |
6. Collaborate with peersJoin a study group or find a study buddy to help keep you accountable and provide support and motivation. |
7. Look after yourselfGet enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet. Taking care of your physical and mental health can help you stay focused and energised. |
8. Ask for helpDon’t be afraid to ask your lecturers for help if you’re struggling with a particular concept or assignment. They are there to support you. |
9. Stay organisedKeep your notes and materials organised and in one place to avoid wasting time searching for things. Use folders, binders, or online tools like Google Drive to keep your study materials organised. |
10. Use visual aidsUse diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to help you understand complex concepts more easily. |
It is important to remember that everyone learns differently, so experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you.
And don’t forget to reward yourself for your hard work and progress!
