Week 9- 14/2/2020

It was a big day on the Friday. It was the 2nd week of the Intramural football tournament. We had 3 teams playing that day with each team playing. So I was referee for 3 matches. It was a good show for all the boys who played. I do need to work on my refereeing skills. It was fun to be apart of and I look forward to being apart of more games.

I was also sorting out a football match for the 5ths team on Wednesday 19th against Exeter University. As the game is at home we need to sort out a referee. This is something I am struggling with as there isn’t a lot of referees in Devon. Hopefully the high powers can sort one out by Wednesday.

Week 8- 4/2/2020 and 7/2/2020

On the 4th it was a bit of a boring 1 hour. I was just in the office for a little bit before having a meeting that included Kathryn, Lauren, Geoffrey (SU President) and Luis Costa (SU Sports Officer). This was just a small meeting about the Varsity timetable and a bit about what we will be doing on the main day. More detail will be made closer to the date. In the office I was sending out emails about the 5ths football team as they have plenty of matches coming up soon.

On the 7th I was in the office all team. It started of  with a meeting about Inner Warrior, which is all about getting females into rugby. Now the Marjon Women’s team is struggling for players and this is about them getting more players. However, the people from the team that we spoke to about this meeting didn’t really think about what they wanted to do. The RFU gives Marjon £400 for this program and we need to know what is the best way to spend the money and how we are going to run this. We are going to run one session before varsity to get the ball rolling. Afterwards two more session will be done and each session will be getting more and more advanced. We will then do a tag-rugby tournament to finish off.

Another meeting will be called soon, then we will talk more about the money side. I believe getting a student qualified as a coach will be good.

Week 7 Part 2 31/1/2020 and 2/2/2020

With the Monday not going very well, the sports fed and SU were worried that it will be the same for the bubble football on the Friday. This was because, the total cost to hire the company was £250 for the day. Me and sports officer Luis Costa were promoting the event all week to get the interest going. It was also important to get people attending so they can support the charity, Row Britannia. Row Britannia is an inclusive (adaptive sport) mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge by The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT), for teams throughout the UK to raise vital funds and positive awareness. The event went well, we was hoping for more people to come. I was shocked that no one from the hockey teams or netball teams came to support us. We only got people from football, rugby, lacrosse and tennis. The people who did come had fun and enjoyed the day. As there wasn’t many who turned up we was able to raise a good amount of money for the charity.

On Sunday we held a dodge ball session, again it was a decant turn out but we was let down by people who said they’d come but didn’t. Again the people who did come had a good time. Overall from the week it wasn’t as we planned. We thought it would go better, which is why we might not be doing as much of these events for the rest of the year. We are just going to wait for freshers and refreshers next academic year. We can also include the price in the bands offered by the Student Union.
