First Day

On my fist day at placement I was greeted by Ben and Chris. They took me to their office and gave me a formal introduction into company protocol and procedures. The protocols of the lab are complex and in depth. However, there are a few rules that must be adhered to. Firstly, if you are ever dealing with blood, gloves must be worn at all times.  Secondly when it comes to dealing with bloods and sharp objects there are specific bins provided that need to be used, this is important so that the substances can be disposed of correctly. After my induction I was then taught how to calibrate certain equipment in the lab. Firstly, I was taught to use the Cortex (gas analyser). Then I was taught how to calibrate the golf simulator. This is a really cool bit of equipment that has a cage around it so that it can take the impact of a golf swing. Overall this was a really good first day and I’m excited to what happens in future sessions.
