Participant Information: T1D CSII pump user survey

We’ve been working with groups of people that are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and are currently prescribed CSII Insulin Pumps. As part of this work, we’re trying to find out what CSII pump users think about physical activity, what helps or hinders them being active and what services could be put in place to help support CSII pump users in managing their conditions in the most effective way possible.

If you are diagnosed with T1D and are a CSII pump user, we’d like to invite you to spend a few minutes filling out our research questionnaire so that your thoughts and views can be included in our work.

If you’re interested, please read on below.

What is the purpose of this study

Currently there are about 20,000 insulin pump users in the UK with adults accounting for approximately three-quarters of this number. Patients usually receive support through Diabetes Nurse Specialists where they discuss medication, lifestyle and behaviour issues.

This research project is designed to look at additional methods of support for those using insulin pumps that could, where possible, complement the support offered by the Diabetes Nurse Specialist.

We’re keen to engage with as many insulin pump users as possible and by use of a questionnaire and some local focus groups we intend to use this information to develop additional services that could be tested and then scaled-up if successful.

Why am I being invited?

We are looking to engage with as many users of insulin pumps as possible. You may have found this request online or you may been invited to contribute by your Diabetes Nurse Specialist by email, post or in person. This study has also been promoted through a number of charities and user groups and you may have been made aware of it through these.

We’re to engage with adults from a wide range of ages so if you are currently prescribed an insulin pump, and are between the age of 18 and 69, we would like to hear from you.

Why should I take part in this study?

In order to create the best possible patient-centred services it’s important for us to engage with as many people as possible that are most likely to use the services in the future.

If I take part, what will I be asked to do?

While we are working with people face-to-face, this part of the project is about an online questionnaire.

The questionnaire is designed to explore your thoughts on being physically active with Type 1 Diabetes. It’s available online or as a paper copy and should take around 20 minutes to complete.

How we will use your responses?

We intend to use your responses to help plan future services. The data will be collected, analysed and then reported. It’s intended that this data is published in peer-review journals or presented at conferences so that it can inform future service planning where appropriate. In all formats your data will be treated as confidential and all contributions will remain anonymised.

If you would like to contact us to find out more or to contribute further to the study then please do so.

What if I change my mind?

Your involvement is voluntary. It will also be confidential with no identifiable data being collected for the questionnaire.

If, after reading this information you still feel that you would like to know more before getting involved then please contact us.

What about Data Protection Issues?

Your anonymity will be respected at all stages of data collection, analysis and storage. All data will be stored according to the Universities policies on handling data.

How can I give consent?

It is important to us that you understand the requirements of this study and that you agree to take part. You will be asked to confirm that you have read this information, that you agree to take part in the study and that you agree to us using your data once you start the questionnaire.
