Plymouth’s Royal William Yard may be a place yet to be discovered by our new Plymouth Marjon university students, so here is an insight into what is to be found within this outstanding location.
The award winning Royal William Yard is situated in Stonehouse, a suburb of Plymouth, which is nearby to Plymouth’s city centre. It is a Grade I listed ex-Naval victualling yard and is home to a remarkable range of outstanding bars, leading restaurants and stunning galleries and shops.
As well as being one of Plymouth’s most vibrant business hubs, its rich history and extraordinary contemporary design is a draw for visitors. Another attraction for visitors is its spectacular views over Plymouth Sound and Mount Edgecombe which is just across the water. There is a foot ferry close to the Royal William Yard where you can also experience the panoramic views across the sound from the other side of Plymouth.
The Plymouth landmark has a prestigious address in the city, with the mixed used development taking up a huge 15 acres of land. This extensive 15-acre site does not just contain restaurants, but has become an exhilarating neighbourhood with 215 luxurious apartments which are home to a dynamic range of people.
Throughout the year, the Royal William Yard holds an extensive range of exceptional local and national food markets, live music and outdoor cinemas. This diverse range of activities means that there is something for all the family to enjoy.
With a range of restaurants for a light bite or alfresco dining, the Royal William Yard has you covered for any occasion. The wide range of eateries include top restaurants such as Prezzo, Wagamama, Wildwood and many more. There is also an artisan bakery and ‘Le Vignoble’, an independent wine lounge, which can be used as a perfect way to relax with picturesque views.
On the grounds, there are a variety of vibrant shops for everyone, from an independent clothing and lifestyle boutique, to the Ocean Studios, a hub of creative activity open to everyone. A hair salon is also situated on the site to give you a chance to relax and to feel pampered.
The Royal William Yard also promotes health and well being with frequent yoga classes, Pilates and a chance to walk the South West Coast Path where you can take in the breath-taking views. There is also the opportunity to try stand-up paddle boarding and to go for a swim in the tidal swimming pool at Firestone Bay. As there are also dog friendly places to dine, it is a perfect place to stop and relax after a long dog walk along the coast path.
