The weekend is around the corner and you’ve probably started making plans already but don’t go out until you’ve read this.
Aren’t you bored of going to the same pubs every night? I mean, Weatherspoon’s is great, and so is Walkabout, but mate, you are missing out if you haven’t been in these hidden Plymouth treasures.
A Taskhina is a Portuguese bar/restaurant in Union Street. One step in and you won’t even feel like you´re in the UK anymore. This place has the looks and the atmosphere of a real Portuguese bar. But don’t worry if you have never been in one, the English, Portuguese and Spanish speaking staff will guide you through their menu to make sure you try the most traditional and tasty Portuguese dishes. Are you up for some tapas, beer and olives?
Lorenzos is a Spanish/Mexican inspired venue. Right next to the bingo, (which closed) and the cinema, (which will be closing) this place stands strong in the forgotten corner of Derry’s Cross. They have great tapas and an amazing variety of food, and their paella might be alright for you if you are British. The best part is to see an actual Spanish dancer performing flamenco around the tables a couple of nights a month. If you fancy trying something new and having a few drinks while you enjoy a good show, put on your warmest coat and take a walk to this hidden gem.
Mama Rita’s is your grandma’s kitchen, if she is Caribbean and cooks for the public. The food in this place is amazing and the atmosphere is great. You can actually see `Mama Rita´ cooking in a home size stove about two meters away from you. I’m warning you though, do not open the door to the restaurant at least you are sure you want to eat there, as the smell will literally drag you in.
If you love live Jazz music, The Blues Bar Grill and Restaurant is your place. You can enjoy a meal upstairs in the restaurant and then continue your evening downstairs in the bar which is open until 2am. They have live music every night of the week except Mondays and their regular artists include Vince Lee and Al Wallis, Russell Sinclair &the Smokin Loco’s, Steve Osman, and many more.
