JOE Edwards is enjoying his responsibility in the centre of midfield after being deployed in the engine room for successive Home Park victories over Carlisle and Leyton Orient.
Edwards, who moved from Walsall this summer, has switched between right wing-back and central midfield this season but the 28-year-old enjoys being in the thick of things in midfield, as he relishes the pressures of having to defend and attack.
The intense atmosphere of a Devon derby at Exeter City on Saturday afternoon awaits Joe and his Pilgrim team-mates next, as we seek a third successive victory in Sky Bet League Two.
“I enjoy playing that role [midfield],” he said. “It’s a role where I feel involved constantly throughout the game, where I’ve got to link play and give the ball.
“I’m more than happy to do that, breaking up play when I need to and making sure we’re right defensively, as well as making sure we’re ready to go and attack.
“In a game like Saturday, it’s going to be a high tempo, high intensity, sometimes you need someone in the middle to just calm things down and make sure we’re fully focussed on the job and then hopefully send the fans home happy.”
The flexibility to operate in different positions has been a hallmark of Joe’s career and the willingness to play where required can only be beneficial to Argyle boss Ryan Lowe.
“It is something I have done probably throughout all of my career, I’ve played a lot of positions and moved about throughout the season,” he said.
“I feel comfortable in the middle of midfield, I do enjoy it, I like being a part of it all the time and I think that’s probably the best area that I can affect the game.
“We’ve got a lot of players in that position who are really talented boys and if the gaffer needs me to play a different position, as long as I’m doing good for the team, I’ll be happy with that.”
Please remember Saturday’s game at Exeter City is a 1pm kick-off and a complete sell-out.
