MIDFIELD anchor Joe Edwards has described Argyle’s training as ‘intense’ ahead of their Sky Bet League Two local derby away fixture against Exeter City on Saturday afternoon (1pm kick-off).
With the Devon Expressway derby just over 24 hours away, it is vital Argyle prepare for the fixture in the best possible way they can. The previous two fixtures against Carlisle and Leyton Orient provided excellent Pilgrim victories, but Joe expects training to be as intense as ever today.
“It will be, but I think over the last two or three weeks especially, we’ve had a real good tempo and focus about training,” he said. “We went through a little sticky patch where we weren’t getting the results we wanted, but we’ve put that right on the training field.”
Intensifying the training sessions proves that it has paid dividends after the results they have secured in the last two fixtures. Performances are improving and the fitness that comes from hard work is paying dividend.
“We’ve worked really hard and the boys are looking fitter and fitter every day,” said Joe. “If we can keep that up through the season, not just for this game, then I think that will put us in good stead.
“The training recently has been really intense, and I think we were probably due a performance on Tuesday [the 4-0 win over Leyton Orient], where the goals came early, and we got ourselves in front.
“Recently at home, we’ve haven’t started great and sometimes went a goal behind, but we’ve been working on lots of things. Our main focus now is just putting a run together of unbeaten performances.”
