THE Argyle squad has been struck with an unfortunate long list of injuries since the beginning of this season’s Sky Bet League Two campaign but there is better news on the horizon.
Manager Ryan Lowe gave us an update on the situation regarding his injured players and midfielders Conor Grant and Jose Baxter are on grass-pitch work, striker Ryan Taylor is back in the fold and Dom Telford close to a return.
“Probably a week I’d say [for Grant and Baxter], they’re on grass-pitch running now, grass-pitch work,” said Ryan. “I don’t know who’s going to come first, whether it will be Conor or Jose.
“Obviously we have got Tayls back now, Dom is not far.”
In terms of players available but not at full-fitness yet, attacking option Billy Clarke played 60 minutes on Tuesday night in Argyle’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Leasing.com Trophy, which is helping towards him gaining match fitness but he is on catch-up after not having a full pre-season.
“Ultimately, missing pre-season in July and August, it’s a long stint and you can be as fit as you want, you can run the roads, you can run the treadmill and get the PT’s [Personal Trainer], you can do anything you want, but football fitness is a total different game.
“Bill knows that, he’s working hard everyday and he’s probably been up the gym before today. A player of Billy’s calibre and professionalism, he wants to get fit and he will make sure he gets fit.
“We will see how Bill is and see how he reacts. He was probably in [on Wednesday] doing some recovery stuff but what I’ve got is a good selection of players that I feel that I can pick from. If Billy gets picked, he gets picked, if he doesn’t, he will have to wait a turn until he gets picked.”
