Sports Organiser Luis Costa told me “Varsity coming back brings a sense of relief, and I’m looking forward to the surprise factor this years event will bring.”
The annual event between Plymouth’s two major universities is set to make a return after Covid-19 put a stop to the event in 2020.
The event sets Plymouth University vs Marjon University in a mixture of sports to see who comes out on top.
After last years hiatus, Varsity will make its long awaited return, but with Covid-19 restrictions in place. The event will be watched by fans virtually through social media such as Facebook live.
Sports Organiser Luis Costa has said, “Covid-19 has had a massive impact and it has been quite challenging to get the event back up and running as it has been in a grey area for quite some time now.”
This years Varsity is expected to bring lots of surprise due to many teams that are set to be playing in this years events, have only been training and not competing in their usual season due to Covid-19.
Plymouth University has won every Varsity from 2013 to 2019.
The last time Marjon were victorious, was back in 2012.
Marjon University fans will hope that Marjon can end their 9 year wait for another Varsity win.
The first event of Varsity 2021 is set to take place on May 5th 2021 at 5pm. It will be Plymouth University women’s football team vs Marjon University women’s football team.
Varsity will run till the 19th of May, with the final event being the American Flag event.
