Stonehouse has a community fridge built around the ethos of mutual aid, those in the community taking or sharing food that might otherwise to go waste. They would like you to come to a concert to help fund the charity that will help feed hundreds over the Christmas period. The cost of living is affecting everybody with prices of food, petrol and heating all going through the roof, this year is going to be particularly difficult for many in the community.
Stonehouse community fridge benefit concert is taking place at Leadworks in Stonehouse this Friday night. The event will feature seven local bands who will come together to produce a night with varying different music genres, including, Grunge, Hip Hop, Electro, Rock, Funk, Country, Tap dance, Fiery Percussion and Sea shanties.
These are all local bands so you may recognise some of them, they include, Abes Apes, Seaweed in the Fruit Locker, Kid Hyena, Anybody USA, Devon State of Mind, Chris and Becca, and Stonehouse Symphony.
The Stonehouse community fridge, located in Leadworks Café on Rendle Street, currently provides 200 locals with food each week on a “take what you need, share what you can” basis. The operation was set up by an ecologist on placement with the Kintsugi Project over 18 months ago.
Since then, around 20 ton of food have been saved from going to landfill sites and has become a lifeline for many of those in the community. The event will take place on Friday from 7pm – 11pm, tickets can be found here, organisers are asking for donations of money of food in exchange for entry.
