Plymouth Marjon University & Plymouth City Patriots Basketball Club have formed a new partnership. They will work together in order to improve the student basketball offer.
Being the only professional basketball team in Devon & Cornwall, the City Patriots are helping to progress the current basketball programme in place & clubs at Marjon, with specialist training and strength & conditioning coaching.
Marjon men’s & women’s 1st league teams will have access to Patriots-led training for up to 6 hours a week, using the facilities at Marjon’s Sport and Health Centre.
Plymouth City Patriots are part of the British Basketball League and they will support Marjon by advancing its BUCS league progression, whilst at the same time engaging more students in the sport.
Former Marjon student & now BUCS & Performance Sport Coordinator Luke Overthrow said:
“The partnership between Plymouth City Patriots establishes the Marjon basketball programme being a part of the Patriots pathway system. Linking our BUCS team to the BBL side & giving those players a chance of being professional athletes. Playing basketball at Marjon means you will be coached by the patriots, giving them top level coaching & opportunities to shine. It also has a big impact on students who don’t play basketball as different placement opportunities can come working with the Patriots.”
