Bianca Bustamante makes history after becoming the first female driver to sign with F1 team McLaren.
The 18-year-old made huge improvements to the involvement of women in motorsport after the tragic downfall of the W Series. Bustamante was well known for competing in the all-female single seater racing championship with Prema, however with the financial difficulties putting this to a stop, she showed her talent through the help of Susie Wolff and McLaren.
By signing with McLaren’s Driver Development Programme and the help of Susie Wolff, Bustamante now has the opportunity and ability to compete in Indy Car, Formula E and even Formula 1. Taking on this big role in a male dominated sport, the young driver can now excel to fight for equality in motorsport and use her platform for those without a voice.
