Plymouth Argyle vs Watford FC | Preview

The international break is finally over, and Argyle return to Sky Bet Championship action when they host Watford on Friday night live on Sky Sports.

Argyle went into the international break having some momentum, picking up an important win at home to Portsmouth, and picking up a good point away at Derby. Argyle will look to build on this form when Tom Cleverley’s Watford visit Home Park.

Rooney’s former Manchester United and England team mate Cleverley will have to watch from the stands, having picked up his third yellow card of the season thus far in their 1-0 victory over Oxford United.

During his pre match press conference, Wayne Rooney explained the difficult circumstances that he and his players have faced during the build up to this fixture, Kornel Szucs and Victor Palsson, at the time of the press conference, are still in transit back from international duty. Rooney also acknowledged that Watford are facing the same issue. “For both teams, it is not ideal, but we’ll prepare in the best way we can for it.”

When Cleverley faced the press, he explained the unique situation that defender Francisco Sierralta finds himself in travelling back from Chile for the game, Cleverley said “I don’t mind being open on this, Sierralta will go straight to Plymouth after his flight back from Chile.” (Watford Observer)

Watford have made a good start to their league campaign, they currently sit in 6th place and are statistically one of the best sides in the division.

“Watford are a good team, a physical team,” said Rooney. “They have some good individual players, we know we have to be at our best to win the game on Friday night, and we’ll do our best to do that.

On facing former team mate Tom Cleverley, Wayne Rooney said “They’re having a good season. Tom is doing a good job. Friendship goes out of the window on Friday night; it’s a game we both want to win, and we’ll both be doing everything we can to do that.”

The Pilgrims have already faced the Hornets this season in the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup, losing 2-0 away at Vicarage Road. Watford went onto face Manchester City in the next round, losing 2-1 at the Etihad.
