A new trend has surfaced on Tik Tok where girls are using the #womeninmalefields when talking about some boys’ behaviour within relationships. This trend highlights some universal experiences women face within dating, especially when it comes to ‘red flag’ behaviours but is flipping the roles and turning it back onto men in a very comical way.
This # is incredibly popular on Tik Tok with around 201k posts using it with the song anaconda by female rapper Nicki Minjas playing. Each video displays writing with typical toxic things men say/do saying they do it as satire. One popular video with over 858.6k likes posted by Marla Fritz says, “He was crying in bed, so I said here we go again and turned around and fell asleep #womeninmalefields” and captioned it with LOL. The response in the comments were mostly females putting their own experiences with one girl even saying “This trend makes me realise I’ve never had a unique experience” which had 4k likes. As well as a comment saying “ARE WE ALL DATING THE SAME MEN” with a shocking 6k likes which highlights just how many women have been in the exact same boat.
So why is this trend important for women? Although most videos are posted to be funny, it is also showing women that accepting this behaviour isn’t always okay by demonstrating how if the roles were flipped, they wouldn’t like it, so why should girls put up with it?
This trend is more than a light hearted trend on social media but has become a way of girls coming together and standing up against toxic behaviour in relationship and spreading awareness of things we shouldn’t be dealing with; it is away taking back power from men and standing on business.
However, men have also hit back with the #meninwomenfields such as one video saying “when she tells me a story i don’t remember i hit her with must’ve been your other bf” so maybe there are things we all need working on and this trend has pushed towards this conversation on things we should and shouldn’t do.
