Its been no secret that Plymouth Argyle have endured a very underwhelming campaign so far this season. The Pilgrims currently sit rock bottom of the championship table with 19 points. Argyle have only four wins this season all coming at Home Park as they haven’t won away from home at all so far this season. The greens have the worst defence in the country, and this is a worrying statistic for the green army as they hope to avoid relegation to League One.
The argyle hierarchy decided to act on the 31st of December 2024 as they agreed to part ways with former manager, England legend Wayne Rooney. Due to where the Pilgrims are in the table it seems that most fans are satisfied with the decision as they were not happy with the form the players were showing. This may be a turning point for Argyle as they earned a point against West-Country rivals Bristol City on New Years Day after a good performance they will feel a point is the least they deserved.
Plymouth Argyle Director of football Neil Dewsnip has been rumoured to have been relieved of his duties by the club and could be following Wayne Rooney by leaving the club. This comes after Dewsnips previous two appointments have been underwhelming this has piled the pressure on the former England under-20 manager and potentially could lead to his dismissal.
Furthermore, there has been lots of speculation about who the next manager will be with the bookies favourite being former argyle manager Steven Schumacher which has mixed reactions from the fanbase after he left argyle to join Stoke City last season. Other candidates include another former argyle gaffer Ryan Lowe, former Millwall boss Neil Harris and Charlton manager Nathan Jones.
In brighter news for the argyle fans, they are poised to sign Ghanaian attacking midfielder Michael Baidoo from Swedish side Elfsborg. The pilgrims had two bids for the player rejected in the summer however seem to have reached an agreement with the club and player as there was speculation on social media that the Ghanian international was in attendance for the match against Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
Argyle fans will be hoping the year of 2025 will be a more positive year than 2024 and it will be interesting how they perform for the rest of the season and if they can avoid relegation.
