We need Bristol City promoted
Having three promoted clubs go down is bad, that happening two seasons in a row is a disaster, if this happens three seasons in a row that is something that proves the Premier League is broken. If the Three who come up and go straight back down, then it is official the Premier League relegation battle has been cancelled.
Burnley
Burnley are insane, this is Scott Parker’s third promotion to the Premier League which sounds like a brilliant achievement, but he has already proven he cannot manage in the topflight he took Fulham down without a fight and gave up on Bournemouth after losing to Liverpool 9-0 in August 2022, that’s the type of coach that is coming back to the Premier League, this is someone who lost their job at Club Bruge only lasting 3 months. The last time Burnley came up they had one of the most interesting bosses in the world, who is now going to be winning the Bundesliga tittle with Bayern Munich and even he could not be competitive in the Premier League, Parker is so many levels below Kompany. Kompany played a beautiful style of football in the championship whilst they mostly beat everyone. Parker this season had 12 0-0 draws by the time it was February 2025, between September and November 50% of Burnley’s eight matches were 0-0. Now that Parker is back he’s going to play it safe and boring when in fact Burnley have Ronaldinho’s son at the club, Joao Mendes joined Burnley’s academy after joining them from Barcelona last summer and his world class dad has been seen wearing a Burnley shirt, Blackburn tried to sign him back when they were in the Premier League. We have seen Burnley promoted 5 times, when was the last time they did well in their first season in the top flight? They come up in 2009 and were relegated in 2010 with Owen Coyle leaving them to takeover as Bolton Manager and was 0-3 down to Man City just after 7 minutes, it was five by half time. They come up in 2014 and relegated in 2015 and it was one of the most boring relegations of all time, three consecutive 0-0 draws in September, in 17 games there was only 1 goal or less, being relegated with four 1-0 defeats in a row is just bad. They come up in 2016 finished 16th and was more boring football. They come up again in 2023 and was down in 19th without a fight, never escaping the relegation zone for a week, the last time Burnley was higher than 16th in the Premier League was 75 matches ago in August 2021, the last time they spent top half of the league was July 2020 when Burnley and Sheffield United finished two points less than Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, Burnley and Sheffield United finished five more points Carlo Ancelotti which feels so long ago. Burnley Under Parker is going to be what they were under Sean Dyche in 2014. Kompany as a manager will be great but seeing him play Man City possession style football with Burnley who are known for their long ball and playing the ugly side at Turf Moore, it was weird. This is what this club wants Parker ball. Scott Parker has a player was decent but like a mini version of Roy Keane, a great captain and seeing sold to West Ham for £7 million was a bargain. His last Premier League match as a manager was a 9-0 defeat, if you lose a Premier League match by nine goals then you have cancelled your status of being a good manager, for example Ralph Hassenhuttle was linked with the Wolfsburg Women team.
Leeds United
Seeing Leeds United initially promoted back in the Premier League after be out for so long was exciting, but come when Leeds magic started coming to a hault that is when Marcelo Bielsa magic stopped working and getting relegated with Sam Allardyce at the wheel, that was the last memory of the great Leeds United in the prem. Leeds United in their last Premier League season was super embarrassing putting on even less points on the board less that they managed after selling their best players in 2004. Seeing them back in the topflight now, it would better if they did not have a Premier League magnet at the wheel. Daniel Farke was sacked as Norwich boss in November 2021 when he was on course to get the Canaries relegated again which never would have thought of him being back again. He bought Norwich as champions twice before burning out, his first League game next season will be his 50th match in the Premier League, he has only won six of those. So, we know Leeds United entering the division with him at the wheel is not going to end well, at the very least they are going to have to sack him, we all know this man is not good enough for this league, this potentially feels like another promotion waste of time.
The best thing of the championship is when we see teams we haven’t seen before or at least for a very long time, over the last 20 years these are the refreshing teams to keep an eye on, Wigan Athletic in 2005, Reading in 2006, Hull City in 2008, Blackpool in 2010, Swansea City in 2011, Cardiff City in 2013, Huddersfield in 2017, Brentford in 2021, Nottingham Forest in 2022 and Luton Town in 2023. All those sides felt like a breath of fresh air. Back in 2017 it was exciting to see what David Wagner could do with them, the same went with Luton and it was hilarious seeing them in the Premier League with the way their stadium is. It got boring with the same yo-yo clubs, West Brom originally coming up was cool, but coming up in 2008 and 2010 and then 2020 it was dull. We have seen Norwich promoted five times and they never learn and now if Sheffield United come up it’ll just be boring, this would be their third promotion since 2019 with the same manager who was there over the last two seasons in the Premier League over that club being one of the worst of all time, finishing bottom twice, this is a club who have been rock bottom for 61 game weeks in a row, the last time they was up they lost 0-8 at home to Newcastle United, Chris Wilder has nearly lost his last seven games as a Premier League boss, he’s won just 6 of his last 54 matches as a Premier League boss. If they win the play offs, we know they will just come back crashing down.
We need a new breath of fresh air in the league, we cannot have the three managers being Daniel Farke, Scott Parker and Chris Wilder, there has not been three more underwhelming promotion managers than these relegation bosses. We need to see fresh faces upcoming coaches add something new, 2015 was the perfect time Eddie Howe, Quique Sanchez Flores and Alex Neil all of them unknown to the Prems circle, but Farke, Parker and Wilder we know them, they ain’t good enough. Even back in 2019 we had Marcelo Bielsa, Slaven Bilic and Scott Parker that was an exciting trio, Bielsa one of the greatest footballing brains of the world, Bilic had been in the Premier League before but he had created an exciting West Ham team before that went wrong, and Parker was a promising unknown but we know him now. With a game to spare there are 6 teams who can get promoted. Sunderland would be good, it has been 8 years since they were in the league, since then they have had a documentary on Netflix, a complete unknown manager in Regis Le Bris and their owner Louis Dreyfus is only 27 years old. Seeing them back in the Premier League could be potentially chaos in a good way. Middlesbrough could produce Michael Carrick; it would be less exciting. Then there’s Millwall also in with a fair chance, it would be scary. The other two clubs are Coventry it wouldn’t be a bad club to be promoted but there’s only one bad thing, it’s Frank Lampard he’s not a breath of fresh air, Lampard is nearly a quarter of a way to 1000 matches, he’s nearly completed a quarter of a Steve Bruce career, he’s taken charge of 104 Premier League games he’s not a new manager and we know what he’s like as a manager, give him a full season in the Premie League with Coventry then this time next year he’ll be more of a Premier League experienced manager than Carlo Ancelotti somebody who’s won the League. Lampard is not new we all know what kind of manager he is.
This is why we need Bristol City a club who has not been in the topflight since 1980, that is how long it has been. We need them up; it screams of Hull City in 2008 or Blackpool in 2010 or Huddersfield in 2017 and Luton in 2023. A small club that have come from nowhere to squeak into the Premier League, it would be so exciting because these clubs because they could either be like Derby County and become one of the worst teams in the Premier League or they could have the momentum, for example Hull were third in November, Huddersfield stayed up beating manager legends like Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho, Blackpool did the double over Liverpool and did enough to try and stay up, Luton were a bit of a let down but they didn’t disgrace themselves. Like Luton Bristol City have an unknown manager 39-year-old Liam Manning who worked as a coach at Ipswich, West Ham, New York City FC, he worked wonders at Belgium first Division B club Lommel SK where he led them to a third-place finish. Having promotion with MK Dons and helped partly Oxford United before going to Bristol City. Knocking on the Premier League in his first full season as Bristol City boss he is someone who has been credited for developing Declan Rice, a complete unknown manager like Manning would be exciting. They could be anything and that is why we need to come up.
The thought of Sheffield United back in the Premier League would be bad, they are so boring and predictable. It’s Bristol City that’s who we need to get promoted. For the sake of saving the Premier League we need a wild card, we cannot have that promoted teams go back down three times in a row, that would be a disaster.
