Oscar Piastri’s drivers championship hopes took a big blow at the Brazil Grand Prix after a disappointing race.
The McLaren driver came home to finish in fifth position after struggling with tyre wear, being caught in midfield traffic for most of the race and receiving a 10-second penalty. Piastri was unable to recover from a difficult qualifying session that set the tone to come for his weekend.
This result has seen the Australian driver miss out on further crucial World Championship points, with Max Verstappen closing the gap and his team-mate Lando Norris extending his gap to 24 points.
After the race Piastri spoke to Sky Sports. He went on to say “it was a tough afternoon” after Sao Paulo’s demanding conditions. He then added “we didn’t make the right calls” implying that his strategy made by the team wasn’t to his liking.
With only four rounds left, the Aussie faces an uphill fight to keep his championship hopes alive after a poor run of results.
