Women Face Growing Online Misogyny

Studies indicate that between 16% and 58% of women and girls globally have experienced some form of online abuse, an increase of more than 10% over the past decade.

As online spaces expand, women are facing an alarming increased rise in threats, harassment and sexist messages signalling that a deepening culture of online misogyny.

In the UK, research conducted between 2013 and 2023 found that the proportion of girls and women aged 11 to 21 who reported receiving offensive comments online rose from 40% to 51%.

Persistent online harassment targeting women has been linked to a sharp increase in mental health issues, including anxiety and depression.

Online misogyny continues to spread, leaving more women vulnerable to abuse and pushing many out of digital spaces where their voices deserve to be heard.
