Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka’s goals gave Arsenal a 2-0 win against Brentford to extend their gap on Man City back to five points.
Ben White’s brilliant cross gave a chance to Merino to score with a bullet header, which left Caoimhin Kelleher stranded and gave Arsenal the lead against the Bees.
Arsenal pushed for a second and had a close call with Martinelli, who skied the ball into row Z, after a brilliant move from the gunners. Brentford could have equalised later on, but a world class save from Raya sent the ball out of play.
The second half was a cagey affair with Brentford pushing hard to equalise, substitute Saka smashed it through Brentford keeper’s hands, after a sensational Merino through ball that cleared the Brentford defence.
Arsenal’s next match is against high flying Aston Villa who are third in the table. Brentford stay in North London to face old manager Thomas Frank at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
