Rory Mcilroy has been named the favourite amongst 5 other candidates for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the year. Mcilroy’s win at the Masters made him only the sixth player in golf to complete the prestigious Grand Slam, the Northern Irishman also won an away Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black before winning a record seventh Race to Dubai title to cap of his great year.
Emerson, 18, thinks he is a “favourite” for the award, he said “a lot of it comes down to the Ryder Cup success in America”. He followed on from this saying, “7 titles this year and a Masters win to complete his grand slam, he is definitely my favourite”.
Fellow golf enthusiast Fin 19 agreed with Emerson and also followed on saying “I’m absolutely delighted for Rory, he sometimes gets forgotten about as he isn’t exactly a David Beckham for example, but golf does have its inspirational stories and Rory’s is definitely one of them”.
The 36 year old is bookies favourites for the award at 8/15, his dramatic play-off triumph at Augusta was his first major victory since 2014 and fans hope he can add another one to his huge trophy cabinet.
