“This tie has saved our football club” Exeter City react to FA Cup third round draw

A few weeks ago, Exeter City fans were left down in the dump as results dived and attendances dropped. Worrying articles about the clubs finances reached the fanbase and panic started to set in asking for answers to if they’ll have a football club come next season.

A lifeline has been given to the Grecians though with the FA Cup draw on Monday setting up what will be one of the biggest games in their history as they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the third round of the competition.

Grecians Kian Williams from St. Austell has high hopes for the fixture, “it’s a great draw for city, our Devon counterparts made the journey up last year and now it’s our turn” and this is what a lot of Exeter fans are boasting about when they think about the draw

Though many plan to attend this fixture, some may have to miss out due to the distance. Exeter to Manchester is over 200 miles and fans are frantically trying to plan how to get to the footballing city. With details still not confirmed, travel links could seem impossible to some to attend.

Even some supporters from the other side of Devon are jealous of Exeter’s draw. Speaking to a Man City fan who also supports Plymouth Argyle post draw, Emerson Elphick said that “it’s a tough place to go, I’m sure Exeter will be on TV which is always good financially”

With no confirmed kick off time and date, city fans could experience a Friday night under the lights or a late Sunday kick off which might just net themselves a few extra pounds and overall bring some long needed financial stability for the club going forward.
